In 2007, the department had a small staff of teachers. Mr. Radiro (TSC physics/chemistry), Mr. Alphonse (BOM physics), Mr. Okoth (BOM chemistry/biology).
There was no science room or laboratory and the few apparatus available were 1 meter ruler, 5 test tubes, 5 boiling tubes, 1 test tube rack and a retort stand. The chemicals available were sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen carbonate, iron (II) sulphate.
The department started from these humble beginnings.
In 2008, more teachers were added. Mr. Eliphas and Mr. Okello stayed for 2 terms and 1 year respectively. Mr. Alphonce left and Mr. Alambo joined the department. Madam Sarah then joined followed by Mr. Ondenge shortly. Mr. Onyango joined the department after this.
Later, Mrs. Linet and Caren joined but left after a short while.
During external exams, solutions were prepared in the deputy’s office/ staffroom. This forced teachers to vacate the staffroom because of the choking fumes.
More apparatus was bought i.e. 5 stands, test tubes meter rules glass block. Experiments were minimal and only demos were done. The first form four class did their practical in two classrooms that were turned into labs. Desks were improvised as benches. Basins were used as sinks for washing the apparatus during the exams.
The laboratory, though not complete, went into use in 2003. Portable burners were purchased. More apparatus was purchased and currently the laboratory is sufficiently equipped even though quiet a number of fittings have not been done. The students now perform the practical lessons in the lab.
A lab assistant was employed in 2003, Ms. Joan Otieno
Students participated in KSEF in 2004 for the first time up to the county level
